Fowler Dominates GM Performance Crate LM Race
Hoots Noses Out Jackson By Inches In Limited Race
By Tony M. Suttles

Wally Fowler claimed the official victory in the GM Performance Crate Late Model race ran at the Harris Motor Speedway on Saturday night May 3, 2008. Fowler grabbed the lead as soon as the green flag dropped on the race and never had to look back. With his car set on a rail Fowler thoroughly dominated the feature race by stretching it out on his nearest competitor and taking the victory by almost half a lap. Travis Blackwell finished second. Jon Thornburg finished third. Kyle Huntley finished fourth. Steve Smith finished fifth.

Josh Hoots claimed the official victory in the Limited Sportsman race. Hoots and Chris Jackson battled repeatedly during the race with the two running side by side the final lap and the race victory determined by mere inches at the finish line. Hoots and Chris Jackson battled almost every lap of the race with each sharing the lead during the race. The battle was so intense that the victory was not determined until the final lap with Hoots taking a photo finish victory over Jackson. Chris Jackson finished second. Michael Barbare finished third. Robert Bradley finished fourth. Mitch Sill finished fifth.

Tim "Nikita" Treadwell claimed the official victory in the Renegade race. Treadwell led every lap of the race but he had his hands full of Lloyd Dean Burgess throughout the race. Burgess placed the bumper to Treadwell several times trying to make him slip up but each time Treadwell held his line. Then on lap eight Treadwell over drove in the turn which allowed Burgess to move past him but before the lap ended Treadwell repassed Burgess to regain the lead position. A lap later Burgess’ car let out a big puff of smoke and it appeared he was done for the night. But instead of dropping out of the race Burgess kept the pedal to the metal and smoke just poured out of the car while he tried to maintain Treadwell’s pace. Burgess ran within a car length of Treadwell the final laps but that was as close as he got. Treadwell held off Burgess for his first victory of the season. Lloyd Dean Burgess finished second. Jason Jolley finished third. Chris Jackson finished fourth. Jonathan Nix finished fifth.

Justin Ward claimed the official victory in the Young Guns race. Ward led every lap of the race but he had his hands full throughout the race. Ward and Ethan Gregory resumed their battle which had started several weeks ago. The two ran nose to tail and side by side several times before the race reached its conclusion. The victory was not determined until the checkered flag dropped on the race because Gregory made a serious bid on the final lap but Ward held him off to secure the victory. Ethan Gregory finished second. Brayden Pruitt finished third. Wendy Smith finished fourth. Matt Spencer finished fifth.

Tony Adair claimed the official victory in the Street Stock Four race. Wayne Laws held the second position throughout the race and ran bumper to bumper with Adair on several laps and looked to the inside of Adair on more than one lap but failed to make a pass for the lead. Wayne Laws finished second. Blake Bentley held the third position during the race and ran within striking distance of the top two but failed to advance his position during the race. Blake Bentley finished third. Shannon Gonce finished fourth. Charles Osborne finished fifth.

Barrett Lowe claimed the official victory in the Super Stock Four race. Lowe led every lap of the race but the victory did not come easily. Tony Adair closed on Lowe numerous times and made a serious bid for the lead on the final lap but Lowe held him off to secure the victory. Tony Adair finished second. Greg Carroll finished third. Brian Bentley finished fourth. Jamie Barbrey finished fifth.

Dale Chapman claimed the official victory in the Stock Eight race. Dale Edmonds took the lead at the start of the race and held the lead the first four laps before he was passed by Chapman but a caution appeared before the end of the lap and Edmonds moved back to the front of the field. Once the race restarted Chapman resumed his bid for the lead and the two ran side by side for a lap before Chapman moved to the front of the field for good. A lap later Scott Smith moved by Edmonds to take over the second position. Within a couple of laps Smith was riding on the rear end of Chapman. Although Smith ran bumper to bumper with Chapman the remainder of the race he failed to make a pass for the lead position. Scott Smith finished second. Dale Edmonds finished third. Marty Reid finished fourth. James Wolf finished fifth.

Travis Burdette claimed the official victory in the Pure Stock race. Burdette led every lap of the race and was never pressured during the race. Scott Humphries finished second. Ronnie O’Sullivan finished third. Chris Greene finished fourth. Brandon Staton finished fifth.
