Jordan Returns And Takes Home Limited Trophy
Thrills, Spills, and New Winners Highlight Racing Action
By Tony M. Suttles

Lamar Jordan claimed the official victory in the Limited Sportsman race ran at the Harris Motor Speedway on Saturday night June 20, 2009. Chris Jackson led the first couple of laps in the race before he cut down a tire and had to restart on the rear of the field. Clyde Scott assumed the lead position and held it for a couple of laps before he spun in turn four while leading the race. Following Scott’s misfortune Jordan took over the lead position. Once out front Jordan turned on the after burners and drove away from the field. A late caution bunched the field back up but Jordan drove away from the competition again and went on to take the checkered flag. Clyde Scott finished second. Josh Wilk finished third. Lance Smith finished fourth. Stephen Fox finished fifth.

Danny Sexton claimed the official victory in the Street Stock Four race. Fourteen cars started the first main event and there was a crash on the first lap which set the tone of events that occurred during the night of racing action. Kyle Cooper grabbed the lead once the race got under way and led the first eight laps before he was passed by Justin Ward on lap nine. On lap ten Matthew Gilbert moved to the second position. On lap eleven Kyle Cooper moved back to the second position. On what appeared to be the final lap Cooper made a move back under Ward while Gilbert remained on the bumper of the top two as they battled side by side down the backstretch. When the three entered turn three there was contact and Ward’s car hit the wall and Cooper’s car spun and initially it appeared that Gilbert received the checkered flag. After Ward’s car bounced off the wall it exploded in flames which consumed the car until it was put out by the diligent track personnel at the Speedway. After a further review the flagman had the checkered flag in his hand at the time of the incident but never waved it to the apparent winner Matthew Gilbert. When the race went back to green flag conditions Matt Gilbert was at the front with Danny Sexton holding the second position. The Gilbert car did not come up to speed on the restart and Sexton took the lead and held it the final lap of the race and picked up his first victory of the season while making his first appearance of the season. Hunter Eubanks finished second. Darrell Gilbert finished third. Jimmy Moon finished fourth. Kyle Cooper finished fifth.

Bradley Weaver claimed the official victory in the Young Guns race. Wendy Smith led the first couple of laps with Bradley Weaver all over her and numerous drivers battling for positions behind them which eventually led to disaster. Elizabeth Ledford spun out in turn four and Brittnye Evans hit her and Casey Towell had no where to go and he hit both of them and barrel rolled down the front stretch. Fortunately all of the competitors walked away. Once the race resumed Bradley Weaver drove past Smith and took over the lead position. Once out front Weaver drove away from the rest of the competition and went on to take the checkered flag. Wendy Smith and Clint Dillard battled repeatedly for the second position with Towell taking the position in the end. Clint Dillard finished second. Wendy Smith finished third. Ray Hudson finished fourth. Kenny Pearson finished fifth.

Nikita Treadwell claimed the official victory in the Renegade race. Treadwell led every lap of the race and picked up his first victory of the season while making his first appearance of the season. On the first lap of the race Treadwell and Jason Jolley battled side by side before Jolley’s car broke and he hit the turn four wall. Following the incident Treadwell went unchallenged until the final lap when James Abernathy battled under him on the final lap. As the two entered turn four of the final lap Abernathy lost control of his car and spun. William Teems finished second. James Abernathy finished third. Jason Jolley finished fourth.

Travis Campbell claimed the official victory in the Pure Stock race. More than twenty cars started the Pure Stock race and although that is a good recipe for disaster there was no serious mishaps during the race even though there were numerous accidents which limited the pace of the race. Campbell led every lap of the race on his way to the victory. Nathan Pierce held the second position throughout the race and ran with Campbell on several laps but failed to make a serious bid to overtake him. Nathan Pierce finished second. TJ Penfield finished third. Greg Carroll finished fourth. Chris price finished fifth.

Stacy Brock claimed the official victory in the Super Stock Four race. Brock led every lap of the race and easily out distanced the remainder of the field. Several drivers held the second position but none of them could maintain the pace set by Brock. Tony Adair finished second. Andy Mattison finished third. Brian Harris finished fourth. Will McGrew finished fifth. Following the race Brock dedicated the victory in memory of his father Joe for Father’s day. Brock stated, “Dad has been gone for several years now but he is still on my mind and in my heart and I still think about him all the time.”

Josh Hoots claimed the official victory in the Stock Eight race. Hoots led every lap of the race and was never pressed for the top spot during the race. Chris Lytle finished second. Jonathan Nix finished third. Dale Chapman finished fourth. Ricky Teems finished fifth.
